Codex is OpenAI’s assistant. It does the same kind of work Claude Code does.
It also comes both ways, a desktop app and a terminal command. Again we take the terminal.
This one asks something of your machine first. It needs Node installed, where Claude Code needed nothing.
Open the Command Prompt. The line should start with C colon, not with the letters P S.
Type n p m, install, dash g, at openai slash codex. Press enter.
This installer talks while it works. Lines go past, and then it tells you what it added.
When the prompt comes back, type codex and press enter.
A box opens with its name, the model it is running, and the folder you are standing in.
It asks you how to sign in. Choose sign in with ChatGPT. It needs a paid ChatGPT plan. Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise.
Inside, slash init, slash status and slash model are where you start.
If you do not have Node, there is a second line on the screen for Windows. Mac and Linux are there as well. Pause it here if you need them.
That is your Codex tip for today.
